What we fix

Trailer lights

Boat trailer lights have a hard life. They get dunked at every launch, the wiring runs along the frame where it gets pinched and scraped, and the plug at the tow vehicle corrodes.

Common problems we track down:

  • Lights that work on one side but not the other
  • Brake lights or turn signals that don't work
  • Lights that flicker or work only sometimes
  • A corroded or damaged plug
  • Bad ground connections
  • Broken or chafed wiring along the tongue and frame

Most light problems come down to a ground, a corroded connection, or a damaged wire. We find the actual fault instead of just swapping bulbs.

Bunks

Bunks are the carpeted boards the boat's hull sits on. Over time the carpet wears through and the boards rot, which can scuff the hull or let the boat sit unevenly on the trailer.

We replace worn bunk carpet and bunk boards, and adjust bunks so the boat sits where it should.

Wheel bearings

Trailer bearings go underwater at every launch. Warm hubs hitting cold lake water can pull water past the seals, and water in a bearing leads to rust and failure.

Signs your bearings need attention:

  • Grinding or rumbling from a wheel
  • A hub that's much hotter than the others after a drive
  • Wobble or play in the wheel
  • Grease slung on the inside of the wheel or fender

A failed bearing on the highway can mean a lost wheel. If you're not sure when yours were last serviced, it's worth having them checked before a long tow.

What it costs

Trailer repairs are billed at our standard repair rate:

ItemPrice
Trip fee (repair visits only)$129 + tax
Labor$200/hour + tax

We'll give you a quote before we start. If we're already out for winterization or another boat repair, ask about looking at the trailer on the same visit.

The $129 trip fee applies only to repair visits. Winterization, dewinterization, and inspections don't have a trip fee.

Good times to check your trailer

  • Before the first trip of the season. Lights and bearings that sat all winter are worth checking before you hit the highway.
  • Before a long tow. Heading to a lake a few hours away is not the time to find out a bearing is dry.
  • During winterization. The boat's on the trailer anyway. See our winterization page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fix my boat trailer lights at my house?

Yes. We come to your home, storage lot, or marina and track down the fault, whether it's a ground, a corroded plug, or damaged wiring. Trailer repairs are a $129 trip fee plus $200 an hour, plus tax.

Why do my boat trailer lights keep going out?

Boat trailers get submerged at every launch, and water corrodes connections and grounds. Wiring along the frame also gets pinched and chafed. A bad ground is one of the most common causes of lights that work only sometimes.

How do I know if my trailer bearings are bad?

Grinding or rumbling from a wheel, a hub that runs much hotter than the others, wobble in the wheel, or grease slung onto the wheel are all warning signs. If you're not sure when they were last done, have them checked before a long tow.

Do you replace boat trailer bunks?

Yes. We replace worn bunk carpet and rotted bunk boards and adjust the bunks so the boat sits correctly. Worn bunks can scuff the hull.

How much does boat trailer repair cost?

Trailer repairs are billed at our standard rate of a $129 trip fee plus $200 an hour for labor, plus tax. We'll give you a quote before we start.

Can you check my trailer when you winterize my boat?

Yes. The boat is on the trailer anyway, so it's a good time to look at lights and bearings. Mention it when you book so we plan for the extra time.
